Sergeant Major Nicanor A. Galvan is a native of Waco, TX. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and graduated Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA in July 1999. Following graduation, he reported to the School of Infantry and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0311 Rifleman. Sergeant Major Galvan received orders for assignment to 3d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment Camp Pendleton, CA in October of 1999.
During his tour with India Company 3d Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, he held the billets of Rifleman, Team Leader, and Squad Leader. Following two deployments with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 (OIF 1), he reenlisted and was assigned to the School of Infantry (West), where he completed the Combat Instructor’s Course in October 2003.
Sergeant Major Galvan performed Combat Instructor duties at Marine Combat Training Battalion, serving as a Company Instructor and Platform Class Instructor where he was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. Upon completion of Combat Instructor duties, Sergeant Major Galvan received orders to 3d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 29 Palms, CA in October 2006.
Serving as the Platoon Sergeant for Kilo Company 3d Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, he deployed twice in support of OIF, to Ramadi and Ubaydi, Iraq. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant at the end of his tour and received orders to the Staff Noncommissioned Officers (SNCO) Academy Quantico, VA in March 2009.
Assigned as a Faculty Advisor and Chief Faculty Advisor at the Academy, Sergeant Major Galvan was recognized two times as the Faculty Advisor of the year, first for the Quantico Academy and second Marine Corps wide. He was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 7 (CLB 7) 29 Palms, CA in June 2013.
At CLB-7, Sergeant Major Galvan served as the Engineer Services Company First Sergeant in garrison and during deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 14.1 Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Following deployment, Sergeant Major Galvan was assigned as the Transportation Services Company First Sergeant. He then received orders and reported to SNCO Academy 29 Palms, CA in January 2015.
Sergeant Major Galvan served as the Director of the SNCO Academy 29 Palms for two years. While there, he ushered in the development of new curriculum and supported the educating of thousands of NCOs. In November 2016, he then received orders and reported to 2d Supply Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC in December of 2016 where he served as the Supply Company First Sergeant. He was then selected to Sergeant Major in November of 2017 and issued orders to 2d Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment Camp Lejeune, NC to report for duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major February 2018.
