Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 2001. Upon completion of The Basic School, he attended the Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and was subsequently assigned to Battery F, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines.
In January 2003, he deployed to Kuwait/Iraq with Regimental Combat Team 5 participating in combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In December 2003, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines. In February 2005, Lieutenant Colonel again deployed to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program with Battery F, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines.
In May of 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett was assigned as Deputy Inspector General for MCRD San Diego and Western Recruiting Region. Following these duties he served as a Series Commander and Operations Officer for 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego. In July 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett graduated Field Artillery Captains Career Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Following school, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett was assigned to 1st Battalion, 11th Marines. He assumed duties as the Battery Commander of Battery I, 3/12, 1st Battalion 11th Marines. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in May 2010. In theatre, he served as the Battle Space Commander for the Kajaki District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. After his deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett served as the S-4 Officer, S-3 Officer, and Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 11th Marines. In July 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett transferred to Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Quantico where he earned a master’s degree in military studies.
From June 2013 until June 2016 Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett served as the Guard Company Commander for Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. During this tour his company was responsible for the security of the barracks and White House Communications Agency, ceremonial guard at the White House, and provided forces to the Camp David Security Force Company.
Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett returned to the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California in June 2016. He served as the S-3 Officer for 5th Battalion, 11th Marines. Following this assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett served as the S-3A for 11th Marines. In March 2018, he deployed to Kuwait as part of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command.
Lieutenant Colonel Stinnett's personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Meritorious Service Medal w/gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and Combat Action Ribbon w/gold star.
